Towards the end of 2013, Anita Smith, Liz Richards and Sarah Drynan decided that Rathdowney again waranted a Pony Club, so these three set about the reformation of the club. At the initial meeting of the reformed Rathdowney Pony Club we were privileged to have Mrs Isa Seeney come along and talk to the new members and give us some insight into the beginnings of the Pony Club in 1966. The below information was given to the Pony Club by Isa Seeney (Robinson).
Rathdowney & District Pony Club was first formed as a Sub-branch of the Beaudesert Horse and Pony Club in July 1966 by Max Robinson and Family. By 1968 the club gained Affliation within its own rights with the Pony Club Association of Queensland and Rathdowney Horse and Pony Club was officail.
Pony Club Rally days and Gymkhana events were held at "Dingo Head", which was reguarded as the Club grounds. After many successful years the club numbers decreased as children gained other interests and families left the district. The club was still kept active by the Robinson Family and in December 1978 a meeting was held with the hope of new interested people attending. This proved to be worthwhile. It was decided to move to the Rathdowney & District Memorial Grounds for a fresh start in 1979.
The Club flourished again and many children enjoyed the experience. As always parents and friends were there to lend a helping hand. Many more successful events were conducted on the Memorial Grounds including Gymkhanas, Campdraft and Sporting Days to State Level. During these years, two members of the Club, Mr Max Robinson and Mr Garry Overton were given the Honour of Life Membership of the Club.
Sadly in January 2005, due to lack of members the club ceased to operate. It was not an easy decision but after no interest was shown in the Rathdowney area there was no point in continuing the Club.
